Philosophy and Goals
Organized sports have long
been used to nurture positive attitudes in children, including self
-confidence, assertiveness, fair play, team work and
community responsibility. In addition to learning respect for and conditioning
their bodies, children who are engaged in competitive sports also learn
important lessons for their daily lives, such as confidence and discipline. Our
program philosophy is a system of principles that regulate the approach and
conduct of every boy and girl, even as the program is built. It is this
fundamental doctrine of behavior; that must reflect the "Raider"
personality. A Raider/Lady Raiders must be true to him/herself: They must
always maintain their integrity as well as respect others. Honesty, respect,
hard work and cooperation are paramount to the development of a true
Raider/Lady Raider. The mastery of an athletic skin promotes self -confidence.
In a well coached program, children learn to work hard toward their goals,
compete comfortably and deal appropriately with pressure. They practice
discipline and gain experience in dealing constructively with aggressive
impulses. As a football and cheerleading program we are able to demonstrate the
need for teamwork and cooperative effort. Team members are urged to strive not
only for themselves, but for their team. Children learn that everyone's role is
important in order for the team to be successful and that any community (team
or squad) is only as strong as its weakest participant. The children learn that
although self- development is paramount in developing success, one must also
encourage the development of one's peers. Players also learn to work with
people that they might not otherwise associate with and compete against people
that they hold dear. This encourages healthy competitive spirits; which can
later be carried into their adult careers.
