PYAA Wrestling Has Strong Beginning!

For the first time since 1999, PYAA has a wrestling program. Headed up by former Pennsauken High School career win record holder and King’s College wrestler Eric Mossop and former All-Conference wrestler Steve Wallace, PYAA wrestling has made significant strides toward becoming one the elite organizations in the area.

Equipped with a dedicated group of excellent leadership from Rogelio Vazquez, our team has burst through the wall forcing other teams in South Jersey to recognize Pennsauken as one of the up-and-coming programs.

Future leaders Jerry Babalonia and Stephen DiNapoli are making significant strides every week and are two of the harder workers on the team.

Anthony Diaz and Kyle Moken are both newcomers who give veteran wrestlers a run for their money. The Anderson-Copes brothers, Justin, Brandon, and Keith, bring fire to the team and family atmosphere.

Perhaps making the biggest splash in the league is first-year wrestler Kerri O’Brick, who suprises many with her aggressive nature.

This past weekend at Willingboro, PYAA showed up as tough as ever.

Rogelio Vazquez won two matches against some of the highest ranked kids in the league. Kerri O’Brick pinned a Willingboro opponent in 35 seconds. Justin Anderson-Copes finished the day with 3 pins despite a sore back. Both Keith and Brandon Anderson-Copes won their only matches of the day decisively. Gutsy performances were also given by Anthony Diaz and Jerry Babalonia.

This coming weekend PYAA will wrestle its final season match at Shawnee High School and the team will wrestle in two end-of year championship tournaments.

The future looks promising for Pennsauken Wrestling. Keep an eye out for open workouts over the summer.
