Uniform Regulations
The Navy JROTC uniform is the symbol of the highly respected program. It is what most people refer to when talking about NJROTC. It is the factor that either makes or breaks a cadet as it can be the cadets way of showing off their pride once they decide to let it, respect it, and wear it!
Everything between the bottom of cadets shoes to the tip of the cadets cover must be emaculate.
( Resource: Cadet Field Manual pages 1-1 through 1-50)
The Navy JROTC uniforms are as follows:
Linked below are the grooming standards for cadets:
Below is a list of uniform items and regulations for Chaparral HS Navy JROTC:
Shoes:
*Shoes shall be Navy-style plain black laced leather oxfords. Shoes shall be laced inside out through all eyelets, and shall be well shined(Note 1: See below). Plain black dress pumps are authorized for wear as an optional item with the service dress uniform for female cadets enrolled only in naval science two and above.
Note 1: Getting your shoes shiny...
The answer is simple: SPIT SHINE!
Tutorials and classes will be held for cadets needing assistance in shining their shoes while at school. To be brief, rub a clean cloth in black kiwi-brand shoe polish so the tip of the cloth (on your finger) is black. Dip the cloth in water once and begin using very small circles to cover the entire shoe. Once the color on your finger-tip turns gray, dip in water once more. Do not overly use the water! Continue until cloth turns white or when shoe is shiny enough to "glow in the dark" as said by LtCol Bishop.
Socks:
*Uniform socks shall be black plain knit or rib knit socks.
¬Hosiery: (Females ONLY)
*Hosiery shall be made of nylon, and similar in color to the tone of your skin. When slacks are worn, black plain knit or rib knit socks (see above) will be worn in lieu of hosiery.
Shirt Stays: (Optional)
*Shirt stays are authorized as an optional item with all Navy JROTC uniforms. Shirt stays are not issued to cadets but can be puchased at low prices from instructors while attending school at CHS. Many styles are available and each are worn differently. Basic styles are cliped to the bottom (tucked-in) portion of the uniform shirt and then clipped to the tops of dress socks or wrapped around the bottoms of cadets feet underneath socks keeping the shirt tightly tucked in.
Undershirts:
*Plain white crew neck only tee shirts shall be worn with all uniforms. V-necks are not authorized for wear at Chaparral High School.
Trousers:
*Trousers should be pressed, well-fitted, proper length, and have no lint or stains visible. IPs will be non-existent on trousers at all times. (Note 1: See below)
Note 1: IPs: (Irish Pennants)
Irish Pennants on a uniform are the stray threads appearing from the uniform material. Proper military appearance means no IPs will be present while in uniform. Remove IPs by cutting off at the base of the thread. Be careful not to damage the uniform itself.

*The combination cover is authorized for wear by officers and chiefs only, and can be worn with Service Dress Blue, Winter Blue, Winter Working Blue and Summer Blue uniforms. The white combination cover may be worn by the color guard when performing. The chin strap (gold for officers, black for chiefs) is adjusted to fit snugly agaisnt the cover.
