Chaparral H.S. Navy JROTC
*Our Proud History*
.: From Past to Present By: C/ Eric Gross - June, 2008
The Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) program was established by Congress in 1964 to be in high schools all around the nation. Chaparral High School (home of the Pumas) holds the honor to have incorporated the NJROTC program into its curriculum and thus our CHS Navy JROTC unit was born...
Our Chaparral High School NJROTC Unit was officially up and running in August of 2010. We had fifteen (15) cadets, a small portable building, and hopes for a successful future. Instructors LtCol Paul Bishop and QMCS Michael Hodell worked with cadets toward building up an ever-growing program within Chaparral High School.
...Fast foward to 2008, 7 years later. We have over 100 cadets, 3 new complete rooms, and the same dreams of success still very much alive. We have added an annually-hosted Drill Meet (Click here for more info) , a complete competitive roster of teams including Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams, a Colorguard, a Rifle Team, and more...
Our NJROTC program remains productive through its teachings of leadership to students in their strive for excellence.

Our Navy JROTC holds an impressive number of these young leaders. Of our graduated students, many have moved on to continue their success.
They consist of a U.S. Military Academy West Point Cadet, prominent college students, U.S. Sailors, Marines, and other military personnel. We at Chaparral have also awarded numerous "Meritorious Achievement" Ribbons to our cadets. Of the awarded ribbons, C/ Crissey Wiley (pictured left) and C/ Alex Vanny earned theirs through bravery outside Navy JROTC.
We at Chaparral HS Navy JROTC have earned four (4) "Unit Acheivement" Awards, two of which came back to back in 2006/07 and 2007/08.
With each year, our Puma Company reaches higher goals and will continue to in our future.

As said by C/ Company Commander Rebecca Day (2007-08) in her relievment speech at the Change of Command Ceremony, "Shoot for the moon, and even if you miss you'll land among the stars." A quote which every cadet leader wishes to see from their peers.
Over the few years we have been around, the school and community have both greatly benifited. Community Service is an important part of our cadets monthly plan. We have aided in community projects and feel it as an obligation to give back to the community. We serve at open-house tours all around Temecula, participate in annual parades, serve our school in after school functions such as home football games and back-to-school nights all throughout the year. Our high School Principal Dan Kenly recently stated when talking with our cadets, "NJROTC, next to cheerleading, unfortunately is of the more under-appreciated programs in our school. I would just like to say everything you guys do is incredible and keep up the great work."
