Knights see 18 point lead evaporate, hang on in final seconds 65-62 over Richmond Select

The Knights were rolling early jumping on Richmond Select with an inspired defensive effort and pinpoint shooting that allowed them to build a lead of as many as 18 points late in the first half before the wheels came off in what turned out to be a 65-62 win. As the lead quickly dwindled, the Knights watched the seconds slowly tick off the clock as the lead became more and more fragile with every tick in what turned out to be a one possession game with Richmond Select coming up short on a half court shot as time expired. The Knights struggled defensively in the second half of this semi-final, thanks in large part to bad shot selection and quick shooting that allowed for more possessions for a Richmond team that had suddenly come alive burying several three pointers to methodically slice into the Knights lead. That coupled with poor free throw shooting (the Knights hit just 3 of 9 free throws in the games final minute), found the Knights clinging to what was once a comfortable lead. Tyrice Thomas, who had a monster game on the boards with 11 rebounds got a late steal and fed a sprinting Dejuan Wright for a lay-up with :22 seconds left that put the Knights up by five points. Wright, who finished with a team high 13 points had a three pointer with just under :33 to play in what proved to be the Knights final two field goals in the game as they salvaged the win and advanced to the championship game of the Bridgewater College Showcase. Scoring:: Wright 13, Browne 10, Walker 10, Griffin 9, Jones 8, Holmes 8, Thomas 5, Coles 2...
