Carolina Celtics rout lackadaisical Knights 91-57

Date: September 08, 2009 at 12:22

The Carolina Celtics made the trip to the Big Shots Charlotte event fresh off a successful performance at the Peach Jam and just days before leaving for the AAU Nationals. Somewhere along the way the Knights would swear they picked up a few members from the Boston Celtics, at least that's what the view from the Knights' bench looked like. Actually a combination of a Carolina team hitting on all cylinders and a Knights team struggling to recapture their intensity after a game earlier in the day, made for an ugly performance by the Knights and their worst loss in their 14 year history.
The Knights had played five hours earlier and, as has been the case on more than a couple of occassions this year, came back for the nightcap and played sluggish. Of their 6 losses this year (24 wins), four have come on the back end of a two games-a-day format. The Carolina Celtics are pretty well stacked as well with five players already committed to Division I programs: Devin Booker (Clemson), Kenny Manigault (Wichita State), Robbie Dreher (Winthrop), Khris Middleton (Texas A&M) and Willis Hall (Charleston). Middleton, a 6'7 wing led the way with 27 points mostly in transition while the 6'7 250 pound Clemson bound Devin Booker controlled the boards with 13 rebounds and 22 points. The Celtics also got 24 points from 6'3 guard Robbie Dreher who went 6 of 9 from beyond the three point arc.
Scoring: Holmes 14, Daniels 7, Woods 8, Thomas 6, Jones 6, Elliott 4, Walker 4, Baker 4, Coles 2, Rivera 2...
