The Knights rose to the challenge in a big game on a big stage in front over 50 college coaches at the headquarters site of the Big Shots recruiting showcase and battled South Carolina AAU power Fundamental Hoops to the final minute when a couple of mishaps resulted in a 46-45 loss, ending their hopes of moving to the semi-final of what has been called the most impressive field and largest Big Shots event ever. After spotting their opponents a 9 point lead much of the first half the Knights made their familiar second half surge. The Knights and Fundamental Hoops (SC) fought tooth and nail in a second half battle that saw the home teams lead trimmed to a single point on four occassions although the Knights were never able to take the lead. With 1:28 to play and the Knights trailing by six, Tracy Elliott outjumped three opponents for a rebound and was fouled on the follow up attempt. After burying both free throws to trim the lead to four, Elliott again took center stage and buried a three pointer to make it a one point game as the clock ticked inside 1:30. Then the first cotroversial play, a tie up with 1:22 left was supposed to give possession to the Knights but a scorers table error returned possesion to Fundmental Hoops. The two teams exchanged baskets and a battle for a lose ball with :55 left resulted in a fifth foul on Tracy Elliott, again causing some debate as some scorers had the foul total at four on the Knights leading rebounder. With the Knights down just a single point and inbounding with :07 left, Alonzo Holmes was hit on the elbow as he turned to attempt a four foot jumper. The contact resulted in Holmes losing the ball and the Knights could only watch helplessly as the ball popped straight up into the air and was secured by a Fundamental Hoops player as time expired. The heartbreaking loss ended the Knights run toward the semi-finals and left the Knights shaking their heads at their bad fate on such a stage. Despite that frustrating setback, the Knights Big Shots performance was successful winning 4 while losing just 2 games. The two losses were by a combined total of 5 points which showed the Knights title hopes were well within grasp. More importantly, several Knights players improved their stock in front of the more than 400 college coaches in attendance at the various game sites. Scoring: A Holmes 15, Elliott 9, Woods 9, Daniels 8, Thomas 3, Hassell 1...
