Images from the Knights tournament title run in Charlotte, NC

Date: March 31, 2009 at 18:41

The Knights kicked off the 2009 season going 4-0 and winning the Tournament of Champions event in Charlotte, NC. Alonzo Holmes was selected tournament MVP after an outstanding shooting performance in the championship game when he connected on 7 of his 8 shot attempts including 5-5 from three point range for a championship game high 19 points. The entire team deserves alot of credit not only because every Knights player scored but each game had a different high scorer! In addition, each player sacrificed playing time as the talent rich and deep Knights constantly rotated players in and out of each game in an effort to stay fresh and keep everyone involved.
Steve Woods averaged 12 points and 9.5 rebounds while Joe Hassell added 9.0 ppg to his 11 rebounds per contest average. Dequan Browne averaged 9 points per game while shooting just over 60% from the floor. Kevin Lewis, Tracy Elliott and TaShawn Griffen each averaged over 8 ppg while Brian Daniels dished out a number of assists while ably running the Knights fast break offense. 6'6 guard/forward Juandrico Walker who blocked 9 shots in the event joined Keon Tatem and Lamarr Coles with solid defensive efforts not only rebounding but with their man to man defensive work often sparking Knights fast breaks. The most difficult chore from the coaching standpoint was trying to ensure each player got sufficient playing time as the team simply overwhelmed both talent wise and athletically the opposing field in the event.
