Point guard Brian Daniels scored 14 of his game high 24 points in the 2nd half and Alonzo Holmes added 13 more to spark a 55 point second half spirt leading the Knights to a 93-85 come from behind win over the Speice Gym Rats in the final pool game of the 2008 USSSA National Championships in Indiana. The pool clinching win was nip and tuck throughout the first half with Keith Cooper (16 points) and Tim Burns (16 points) keeping the game close.
Cooper had 14 first half points but was hampered by foul trouble and saw limited second half activity. A third quarter substitution found Daniels and Holmes leading a young lineup featuring Equan Gary, John Collier, and Cole Trower. In a five minute span ending the third and beginning the fourth quarters, that combination outscored the Gym Rats 9-4 and turned the momentum in the Knights favor. Lamar Coles then scored back to back baskets to ignite one more scoring push for the Knights who were able to run out the last :46 of the game settling for the win even though the 100 point plateau was in striking distance. The Knights claimed the pool title and advanced to Wednesday's bracket play beginning the road to what they hope will be another national title.
