DC-Pass Right Question:
By: Dum CoachThe DC Wing T Pass protection scheme is not designed for a "drop back passer." Drop him straight back and he will be dropped for a loss.
First, let's fix your pass protection. On Pass right, the LT has the DE. He'll have to step backwards on his left foot and then go out and get him. The RG always helps the center unless there's a defender in the "2" hole (RG's gap). So if there is a defender head up on LG and head up on RG, both the center and the RG with take the defender in front of the LG (The RG will pass behind the center just like on trap). If there is a defender on the center but not on the LG or RG, the RG will double the NG. The FB will skip his three steps and head for outside shoulder of the right side DE, and fight around to get in front of him. The #3 back is running the "6" hole and is responsible for picking anyone up in that gap. If he can't find anyone, it means "Pass Right, Zero Open" should be a good call. The QB will set up either directly behind the FB's block on the DE or one yard outside it. He'll be about 3-4 yards behind the LOS. Never deeper! From snap, count "One Monkey, Two monkeys, three monkeys, four!" When you say "Four" the ball is to be in the air or the QB is to take off and run. The simplest thing to do is to run it live, in practice, with the defense knowing the call is "Pass Right". However, do not allow ANYONE to tackle your QB. For anyone who gets through, it's just two hand touch (including wrap up). Start plugging the leaks. That is your primary problem.
