dc wing t

"good morning dc. i was looking at your response today and a thought hit me. if a 53 defense aligned its olb's over the offensive tackles with a "tnt" would it then be considered as having 6 in the box?

That most certainly would be a "6 man box". For lurkers, I'll explain how the DC Wing T counts the "box" at the end of this post. Here's the defense he's describing versus the DC Wing T:

F
C W M S C
E T N T E
O O O 0 O O O
O O
O
O

"if so,what would be your plan of action? the slot call is the ideal call for 5 down linemen, but what if the olb's do not shift?

It doesn't matter whether they shift or not because, versus wing T, whatever the defense does is always wrong. Here's the "slot" call with the defense unshifted:

F
C W M S C
E T N T E
O O O 0 O O O
O O O

O

Note the DE on the left side is now in conflict. If he tries to play on the outside shoulder of the slot, he can be cracked by the SE, who is standing on the sideline next to you ready for you to point that block out to him. If he plays inside the slot, the slot can "crack" him (47 Speed). If he plays "head up" on the slot, the WB can kick him out (25 Power). So you're just standing there calling plays based on whatever mistake he's making at the time. If you'll notice the slot has a great blocking angle on W just as the LT has on M. We're going to seal the defense inside and go outside. Did we have to develop a side line strategy for this? Nope! We just counted up the down linemen, got 5, and knew to call "slot" and knew a hole will appear inside the slot back (page 11 manual). We knew to run outside by counting the deep defenders (Cover 1 - See page 11 again). We know the FB is "unaccounted for outside the box" (page 17), so "25 Power" becomes the most likely call and which forces the outside corner to make the tackle. As soon as the corner starts watching for the play you'll know it one of two ways. You'll either see the play go for fewer yards or the SE will come back and report he was uncovered - Or both. So now you call "Pass Left, #2 Open" for the TD and the band plays. No brains or required on your part. If they're stopping the run, the pass is open - That's because they're using pass defenders (the corner) to stop the run. If you'll notice, #1 is also open. And if the backside corner follows the WB on "25 Power", just call "Jet 24" and the FB will go for 30 yards as the TE takes that great angle on S. So you're going to score and you're going to score in your first five plays. There's not much this defense can do to stop you.

But this is just the beginning. Besides "slot" we can call "FB On". Again, once the FB moves out of the box, he's unaccounted for (page 17). Run "Super, FB On, 36 Toss" and who is going to make the tackle? And could the hole possibly be any bigger? Touchdown and the band plays again. If the defense tries to shift anyone over from the weakside to go with the FB, just call "47 Speed". We don't use the FB on "47 Speed". They get caught short one player playside and the band plays again. Whatever they do is always wrong. Did we do any thinking? Nope! We just counted up the down linemen, got five and knew to call "slot/Slot On" or "FB On/FB Over". The rest is just watching headless chickens running around trying to correct - And whatever correction they make is always wrong. But we're still not done! The "Cover 1" tells us we can use other "Over" calls, such as "SE Over", "TE Over", "WB Over" and "HB Over". They might adjust to one or maybe even two of these calls, but probably not all four - And, more than likely, they won't adjust to any of them. You can use these calls on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 and pick up the first down - or maybe another TD. And we still haven't run the "Unstoppable Play" or the delay pass to the TE off the "Unstoppable Play" (You know he's going to be uncovered). Also looks like the TE will be open on "Pass Right". And if the QB keeps on any pass and has some wheels, that should be good for 10. If you lose the game, it won't be because you got shut out. The other team's going to have put up a lot of points on the scoreboard to win, because you're going to be putting up your share.

Now! For lurkers, why does the DC Wing T count "the box" from OT to OT (tackle to tackle)? Simple! Because our offensive formations never change on the line from "tackle to tackle". From "tackle to tackle" we have 8 players (counting backs). So the defense is under pressure to defend the middle with at least six, such as shown above. But if you defend the middle with 6, you're defending the "outside" with 5. So the DC Wing T automatically runs outside against the 5 versus inside against the 6. We run where they ain't. If the defense changes and plays 5 in the box and defends outside with 6, then we'll run between the tackles where we outnumber the defense 8 to 5. Again, we run where they ain't. And the defense, no matter how many players they put in the box, is always wrong.
