Football League for Larger Kids

There is a very simple solution. First off leave the pound/age leagues alone. PW and many independents serve thousands of kids each season and do a great job at it. When they increase the weights all they do is increase the gap between the maximum weight player and the lightest player on the field. Weight limits are to create safer playing conditions amongst like sized players.

The solution for the parents of big athletes is to start a "UNLIMITED WEIGHT FOOTBALL PROGRAM." I started one in 1995 with 35 kids who were in the 6th-8th grade. We practiced and played against freshman teams. We did not win a game that season but at least 12 of those first time players are about to begin their college careers this fall. Four of these kids will be playing Division 1. In 1996 we had 60 kids split on 2 teams, and our record was 11-1. We beat every freshman team except one. Most of those players will be playing in their senior year at high school this fall. One in particular was the area high school defensive player of the year last season as a junior. He may go to Stanford, ND or U of Michigan.

Last season I had over 200 players (6th-8th graders), on 8 teams. This season coming we will field over 400 kids on 16 teams. Our players are not able to play in typical pound/age teams. These are big athletes who are 5'6-6'1 150-210lb backs. Some of our lineman have been as big as 6'3 320lbs, with the average lineman at 6' 240. These kids are so excited because they finally have the opportunity to learn and play football.

If you are serious about developing a program like I have, contact me and I will help you do it.
