we DO practice that, coach, believe me....i have kids playing in high school now that i coached, and they still remember yelling about outside contain...hahaha...
do NOT let the de try to slip "inside" a block by an end either, they ll get hooked inside every time...we run a 5-4...i want the de's in the backfield, period, as fast as they can get there...our olb's have the outside contain, and pass coverage on the backs......most teams run most of the time...some try shot guns...but there arent alot of good ends, or centers....if youre rushing 8 or 10, theres no way for 7 to block 8 or 9 or 10, so, its easy to get alot of pressure on the qb....most passes are short...you have to hope someone misses a tackle or you totally surprise them to have a good passing game...we'll pull up a safety as a "monster" type lb, and rush him on short yardage, or first and second downs...but the safetys always thinks pass first, then worry about the run...never let anyone get behind them...and they have to be decent tacklers....you can "hide" players back there on your 2nd teams...but not on your first.....
