Parents providing the right answer???

By: Coach Sam

Bob,
Again Coach Wade has hit the runner with a heads up shot. We as youth coaches can not be driven away from the game by the insanity of a few bad parents and/or coaches. These kids grow on you and you on them. For the most part I do not really take to heart what the parents think of me, it's what my players think that count.

Case in point, I caoch 6/7 year olds. Green when they walk on the feild. But BOY i get charged up when even one player developes to the point that he has grown to become a football player. This one youngman came out a nice size 7 year old, never played. At first he was not very aggresive but I got him to block perty well, but he was very gun shy about playing deff. But understanding and working with him and letting him play deff when he felt he was ready. One day he said "coach I want to tackle" Well we play our last game tomarrow and he's going to tackle, this boy in the last 3 games has become a two way player. Next year he will be a killer off/deff lineman. He is right now the best off lineman on the team. This is where my joy comes in. Every game the young man walks to me and says " coach i'm blocking good tonight so you'll be proud of me" Then gives me a hug.....What a joy. So remember the good stuff that keeps you coaching.
