better blocking

I do not think there is a team out there that at some time or another has problems with blocking. If it is the case as Coach Wade suggested (having to many plays or defensive alignment changes)then you need to simplify your blocking assignments. To keep it simple for our kids we use the acronym "OIL". "OIL" stands for ON - INSIDE - LINEBACKER. The bacic questions they must ask themselves each time they go to the line are: Is there someone ON me? If not, is there someone INSIDE me? If not, I take the LINEBACKER. And if all else fails, they need to hit someone in an opposite colored jersey or at a minimum place yourself between the defender and the ball carrier.

Line coaches have the hardest job on the field when it comes to teaching young football players how to block. One thing we fail to do is to show these players the big picture. How often do we actually walk through the entire play, position by position, so everyone fully understands what is happening.

Don't forget, a nodding of the head only means they have heard what you said, not necessarily do they understand what you have said.

GOOD LUCK!
