pop warner leagues vs. unlimited weight leagues

pop warner weight scales hurt kids in stead of helping them. they say the weight scale is to prevent injury, which sounds great but does it really help or hurt. according to pop warner a child playing in lets say the "mighty mite" division should be 7,8.or 9 withe exception of the 10 year old older lighter catorgory. the 7,8,and 9 year old should weigh no less than 45 lbs but no more than 85 pounds (5 pounds was added to the weight scale for the 99season) the older light kids have to be no less than 45 lbs but no more than 65 lbs. it is next to impossible these days to find kids that fit these weight scales and it is really not fare to the kids wh dont fit that weight. that is why in some areas pop warner is dying. and this is a so called national program. pop warner weight scales are behind the times and if they are not fixed pop warner football will die in some areas. just who fits pop warners weight scale, how long has it been since someone at the pop warner nationa office really took a good lok at the weights of todays kids. i have been involved in pop warner as a coach for the past 4 years and i have watched as pop warners numbers have gone dwn while unlimited weight leagues all around have doubled in numbers.
