Girls should play football
By: Kim Grisafe
Thanks Cathy...Believe me, this is not the first "coach Hernandez" we have dealt with. There are many people out there that are afraid of females getting into the sport for fear that the boys' masculinity is somehow at stake. I have learned to just laugh off people like him. They only make themselves look stupid by their ignorant comments. The only thing that worries me is that men like coach Hernandez (and I use the word "men" lightly when speaking of him) are teaching our sons this subtle gender-prejudice day in and day out. It is a sad to think that as we near the turn of the century females are still thought of as second-class citizens. Females are still trying to be kept from doing something they love based on their gender. The laws have changed to allow females equal rights, unfortunately, the backwards thinking of some people find ways to keep those rights from being implemented. It is a scary thing. I should let you know, however, that for every "coach Hernandez" we run into...there 10 supporters just like yourself. So, the good news is that the positive outweighs the negative. Thanks again for your words of encouragement.
