Coaches That Verbally Abuse & Berate 8-14 year old Players in Public
By: League member
Dear Concerned Parents, I have read with interest your comments and I fully agree that children need to be treated fairly. I also do not believe it is necessary to be constantly yelling on the field to teach the game. I have been coaching at the High School and College level for over 20 years and am now President of an AAYFC Association here in the Sacramento area. Since I have been involved with the youth program over the past 4 years, we have also had incidents of coaches yelling at the kids and acting improperly on the field. Our board took immediate action to correct the proble and we have actually removed two caches for this kind of conduct. The problem with your shotgun approach here is that it doesn't appear that you have taken the issue to the local governing body which is your Board of Directors. Also, contacting the CPS type agencies is a joke. This is a parental issue and should handled as such. I can guarantee you that if you followed the proper steps, including calling the AAYFC Commissioner, you would have had instant help in this situation. In the time I have been associated with the AAYFC I have found that they are very responsive in every situation. They are extremely sensitive to the wellfare of the children and are one of the best youth organizations I have ever seen. Furthermore, I feel part of the problem with the kids today, on all levels, is peolple like you that teach them to cry foul instead of teaching them to deal with issues under the proper process to help correct the situation. I encourage you to trust your local Board and the AAYFC to help you solve these problems but you must not let your kids quit due to adult misbehavior.
