In Pool Play, top
seeded Durham Attack Black withstood a strong challenge from their cross-town
rivals, DRVC, emerging victorious by scores 25-19, 25-16, 25-16.
Next, Attack faced
Etobicoke Titans, one of three teams including Attack named by OVA as eligible
to represent the OVA at the Canada-West Championships in May. Attack won
25-6, 14-25, 25-12. Attack placed 1st in Pool A.
In the Crossover
match, Durham eliminated #4 seeded Georgetown Impact 25-18, 25-13.
In the Semi-Finals,
Durham faced Waterloo Tigers, winners of a 16U Zone tournament last week.
Waterloo played well in the second game, but Attack drew on its winning
experience to prevail 25-10, 25-22.
This set up a
championship re-match from the previous 15U Tier 1 tournament, against the host
club, Forest City. The London team has good height and the block was a factor,
particularly since the tallest Attack player, Rebecca Glancey came down with the
flu and was unable to play. But it was Attack that came up huge, winning
handily by scores 25-10, 25-15 to take home the Gold.
Coach Evan Williams
is to be commended for training the team in how to score against taller
opponents. This will be helpful later, as next up is the OVA 16U Tier 1 Bugarski
Cup, March 4th, which will match them against competitors at the next higher age
group. |
