good USA Volleyball article that
disappeared a couple of years ago. Retrieved from a couple of

Summer Success & 2009
Tryouts
Sept 21
To
accelerate our integration of LTAD into our programs we held
our first annual Durham Attack Leadership Conference over the
weekend at Camp Walden (Madawaska). Our coaches re-affirmed
our club mission, developed
leadership skills and attended workshops on technical, physical and mental skills training.
We
don't have a separate high performance program - we integrate
physical, mental and leadership skills into the program of every
team.
A big
'thank-you' to the coaches who gave up their valuable time to
attend. The weekend was a huge success and we plan to expand
it to include our 16-18U athletes in 2010 and all
our athletes in 2011. More info soon.

Weak Kneed
Sept 19
Interesting
article via the OVA, that highlights the importance of rest and
recovery, and physical training for injury prevention... "To play
competitive sports is to accept the possibility of injury. But it’s up
to parents “to go in and talk to the coach and say, is this working? If
my daughter is sore or she’s injured or she’s just worn out to say, is
this the schedule she ought to be playing? Is she getting enough time to
rest? Is this whole team getting enough time for rest and healing?”
“The intent of the women’s sports revolution is not to have a bunch of
girls leave the field of play and turn into young adult women who are
compromised physically.”
