Thumbs up to
the 15U Girls for their performance at 16U Provincials! They have much to be
proud of moving from an 18th place start to a 5th place finish by end of play on
Sunday.
It was a challenging weekend with more highs than lows. Day one ended with two
wins and one loss for a second place finish in Pool C. The highlight was the
second game – Durham Attack against the number two Defensa team who went on to
win the tournament. The girls knew it would be a tough match and they came out
strong losing the first game by only 4 points (21-25). That got their adrenalin
pumping and they took the second game 27-25. What an upset! The tie breaker was
also a heart breaker – Durham lost 16-18. The final results were disappointing
but the performance of the team was awesome! That match was proof that when the
girls bring their A game, they are a force to be reckoned with.
Day two was a bit easier although the competition remained strong. After three
game wins over the Niagara Rapids and National Capitals, Durham took the final
match against Impact in two which gave the girls first place in their pool.
Sunday started off with another three game match, this time against the Selects
93. Scores were close (25-18, 21-25 & 18-16) but the girls won and moved to the
quarter finals against the Falcons who had come to the tournament seeded third.
Durham played an amazing first game and came so close but the win went to the
Falcons (26-28). By now the girls were running out of steam and lost the second
game 13-25.
The team played hard, never gave up and made a wonderful showing – we are so
proud of each and every one of them! Thanks to the coaches who put in another
long weekend on the courts. Kevin said he was thrilled with the overall
improvement in team play (that’s a quote!) and he’s excited about Nationals.
Thank you to everyone else who worked to make the weekend a success. Now it’s on
to the Nationals. Look out Moncton & Calgary - here we come!
