|
The Ontario Championship got off to a tough start for the U15 Boys with Pool
play on Saturday, April 11th. After losing to Ottawa Roos at 8:00 am by
scores of 25-20 and 25-20, our relegation to Tier 2 was all but decided.
We would need to upset the 3rd seed, Forest City and defeat SVC to stay in Tier
1. SVC gave us a scare in Set 1 but we regrouped to easily defeat them 2-0
before our mid-day match with London’s Forest City. Despite losing the
match 2-0 to the boys in Green, we battled proudly to two 25-23 losses putting
us down to Tier 2 for the rest of the Championships. The entire squad
contributed well in the three great matches of Saturday’s pool play but the
disappointing result caused us to change our objective and focus on the Tier 2
Gold.
Sunday’s pool play proved to be much more successful for us with our only loss
coming to Toronto VC, again at 8:00 am (apparently, the boys do not wake up
until 9:00 am on weekends!). We still managed to finish 1st in the EE pool
with victories over Chatham’s Ballhawks and Barrie Elite. Again, all 11
players were able to contribute on and off the court to guarantee a bye on
Monday morning (wisely avoiding any more 8:00 am games) and moving us one step
closer to capturing gold.
Monday started very well with a 2-0 victory over Windsor’s Riverside. By
defeating SVC fairly quickly in a 2 set semi-final match, we were able to get
ready for an incredible Gold medal match against the Ballhawks who were looking
for revenge from the day before. Our three set thriller needed to go
beyond 15 points in the 3rd set before we sealed the victory with a convincing
block by Trey Olympia and Chris Breadner.

Highlights are too many to mention and were provided by every player when they
had their chance. Thanks to captain Brady Allison for your leadership and
congratulations to our boys on the U15 Black Gold Medal Champions!!
Thanks to all the parents and family members that supported us throughout the
season. We loved the extras that you provided at Ontario Championships
including; Saturday afternoon’s Tailgate BBQ, Friday’s Pasta Pigout and the team
banquet down in the Kitchener Room. Finally, we need to pay special thanks
to our amazing Team Manager and the incredible Team Perau for keeping the scores
and lines perfectly handled every time.
