The
U17 girls tested the competition south of the border this past weekend
at the Big South National Qualifier in Atlanta, Georgia. This is one of
the largest amateur youth volleyball events in North America. With 840
all-girl teams competing this year, there was players ranging from 10 to
18 and approximately 115 courts set up. |

There were 165 teams in our U17 category and the competition was tough (not to
mention very tall!) We were able to compete with the best and hold our
own. With this being the US National Qualifier we had restrictions on how
well we could place. We finished 20th and the best we could have placed
with the restriction was 17th. Overall it was great experience, a bit
overwhelming, but definitely worth it.
We shared many meals, shopping and sightseeing excursions together. Two of
our girls, Dani and Valerie, celebrated their 17th birthdays with us. Our
final evening was a celebration dinner of pizza, birthday cake and a
side-splitting game of “back of the line”. Our coach, Curtis, managed to
endure the weekend without his luggage only to get it back the night before
departure. All in all a fantastic trip (except for flash flood in Room
1006) don’t exactly know what happened there …Curtis!
Thanks to everyone who had a hand in organizing our trip. Well Done!
