Though it was a cold day in Trenton Ontario, the 15U red team was blazing hot at
this weekend’s tournament.
Our first game was against Pegasus Rampage. Though they put up a good
fight, attack came out on top with a score of 25-20 in the first game and
finished the second game with a 25-11 win.
The next team in our pool was the Etobicoke Wildcats. Attack was looking strong
in the first game, but the Wildcats weren’t ready to give up. They ended
up coming back from behind to win the first set 26-24. Attack was determined to
come back in the second match, taking the victory 25-20. The match was
sent into a tiebreaker game and although Attack was looking strong, the Wildcats
pulled ahead to win it 15-12. Durham Attack 15U Red finished second in
their pool.
Our next game was a crossover game against Barrie Flurry. We needed to win this
game if we had any hopes of getting a medal. With the pressure on, Attack was
able to conquer the determined Flurry team 25-18 in the first game and 25-19 in
the second.
We then traveled back to Marc-Garneau to face Aurora Twister. We managed
to defeat them in both matches with scores of 25-17 and 25-22.
Our next game was against our rivals DRVC Blue. We started off strong,
managing to win the first game 25-21. Unfortunately, DRVC responded and came
back to win the second game 25-19. However, our determination was not
daunted. With some excellent defense, great serves, and killer spikes we pulled
ahead, winning the third game 15-8.
Attack was now in the finals and despite a long day, managed to pull away with
the gold medal, having defeated Storm Monsoon 25-23 in the first match and a
nerve racking 28-26 win in the second.
Congratulations Girls! Your hard work and perseverance really paid off this
weekend. I’d like to thank our wonderful coaches Paul McGrath and Linda
Naccarato. Thanks also to Chelsea our expert libero coach and to one of
our middles, Brooke, who stuck with us and supported us in spite of injuring
herself last tournament. And, a special shout out to Shannon, we all
missed you and wish you a speedy recovery!
GO ATTACK!
