After 2 Silver wins at our previous tournaments the 17U girls prove they are GOLD worthy!

This was an incredible day for our 17U girls and not an easy journey. The 17U girls never do it the easy way and it is always such a rollercoaster ride with this group but they are the most amazing bunch of girls.

Our day started off on a funny note with the girls dressed according to their partners choosing.  Of course there were some comments “Have you seen Durham Attack?”  “What is with the outfits?”  But it was all in good fun.

In pool play first up was our all-time rivals the Scarborough Titans. Our first set was absolutely awful losing 14-25 but the girls came back to win the second set 26-24, however we weren’t on our game as the girls would lose the third 13-15. Our second game was against Storm Vortex. The first set went to Storm 25-20. Again Attack would fight back and win the next two sets 25-12 & 15-9 but a pattern of 3 set games were developing.

Something wasn’t right! It was determined our feisty little libero “Sara” was not feeling well and was running a fever.  Curtis called on Valerie one of our power hitters to step in and what a great job she was able to do.

Our final pool play match was against the powerhouse team Ottawa Maverick.  This is a newly formed team of elite athletes.  Our girls came out flat and lost 25-16 but poured it on for the second set winning 25-22.  The third set was nerve racking, so close, point for point.  Unfortunately we lost 19-17.  This placed us 3rd in pool play.  Not exactly the outcome we were hoping for but still a glimmer of light.

Curtis was able to get the girls minds cleared with a competitive game of “Name That Tune?” against the parents.  The girls were very talented at this and they won the first round easily.

Our crossover game was against Forest City and the girls came out strong winning 25-22.  The second set was a give away losing 25-14 “what the heck!”  So yet again the girls were faced with a third set.  It was another nail biter and I’m not sure the parents can handle those close games.  But the girls managed to pull it off and beat Forest City 15-13.  This would set us up to meet the Ottawa Mavericks again!

However, first it was time for the final round of “Name That Tune?”  The girls were once again very knowledgeable but the parents just as competitive weren’t going down without a fight.  With the girls ahead it was time for “Final Jeopardy”.  Set your bid, write your answer and hope for the best.  Oh yeah parents rule!

Our semi final game against the Ottawa Maverick would be true to the day’s pattern having Ottawa winning the first set 25-18 and Attack taking the second 25-19.  The third set was by far some of the best volleyball played all day and best yet Attack came out victorious 15-12.

Our day would end with the gold medal match against the Scarborough Titans.  Our girls were so pumped after beating the Mavericks the Titans had no chance.  Attack dominated both sets and won 25-23 and 25-22.

With a total of 17 sets played, what a glorious end to another 12 hour tournament day!  As Curtis put it “Sweet Redemption”!

Thank you to all the parents who provided us all with an amazing array of food. You are the best.
