It was a long drive to Ottawa for the 16U Challenge Cup, but in the end it
turned out to be all worth it.
Our first game of the day was against NCVC 15U Burgundy. We had an easy
time, defeating them in two sets 25-11 and 25-7. This gave us a chance to
show the skills we'd been working on in practice and use them in an actually
game situation. We then played the Astros 16U, which were more of a wake
up call. The team worked hard, with strong defense and even stronger
offence. Which helped us to win two straight sets again 25-21 and 25-21.
Our last game in pool play was against Maverick Trailblazers. We played a
tough but determined first set winning 25-23, after that they fell behind fast,
while we were on our game, winning 25-8. This all led us to come first in
our pool!
In our cross-over game, we flew right through both sets thanks to strong
serving, winning 25-8 and 25-12.
Moving on to the semi-final, we were pumped to keep our roll going. Facing NCVC
15U Navy, we had good defense in back court and front. The score 25-21 and
25-17
The final match was an intense one, playing the Knights VC, who we had recently
had some feuding with between coaches. They were back for revenge and we
were ready to show who's the better team. In the first set, we suffered
from mental errors and our lack of talk on the court, taking a brutal defeat of
12-25. Coming back in the second set though, we pushed ourselves to bring
back our energy, and came through and won the set 25-23. Going into the
third game, we were ready to show the team we really are, starting off strong we
took the lead and kept it. Pushing through all of the days events, we
pushed ourselves to win it 15-11. Taking Gold!
Congratulations ladies, although shorthanded on coaching and sickness spreading,
we got what we deserved and are proud to be moving up to 16U Tier 2. Where
the team hopes to being their game, and show what we're made of once again.
Thanks to Linda, for single-handedly coaching the team to victory. Also,
thanks to parents for the long drive, and of course thanks to the ladies who
showed our full potential as a team! Congratulations.
GO ATTACK!
