U16 Red has had an
exciting season so far. We have 4 new girls on the team who had never played
club ball before who have all transitioned very well into the Durham Attack
family.
We have played several tournaments in U16 and U17 giving the girls an
opportunity to get a feel for the new team dynamic and although we haven't had
any medal finishes the team is gelling very well both on and off the court.
Last weekend we played the U17 Championship East tournament in Barrie, where the
girls showed their abilities in blocking, serving and hitting. There were lots
of long rallies and good plays.
First match went to Storm Vortex with scores of 25-21 and 25-23.
U16 Red dominated the next round against Barrie Elites with scores of 25-14 and
25-16.
Onto lunch where Sam entertained everyone in the cafeteria with her exceptional
singing and dancing from HSM.
Unfortunately it was not the same team that showed up for that all important
crossover. A few missed plays and unforced errors whittled away some of that
earlier confidence and we ended up losing to Interclub 25-13 and 25-17.
Last game of the tournament put us against the number one seeded team in the
tourney, the Phenix Orange, who had suffered its own meltdown during the
crossover.
First game went to Attack 25-21. Second game went to Phenix 25-13.
Final 15-8 for U16 Red.
So we ended on a winning note. The girls bounced back. And although we already
have a myriad of injuries from Micaela's knee to Emily's wrist and Jess' abs,
the girls are ready to rehab and repair and do battle at the next competition.
Can't wait.
