The 15U
girls had their fill of challenges at the 16U McGregor Cup in Pembroke this
weekend. We were hit with injuries, cold weather, an extra long day and
too many close games that we just couldn’t win.
The good news is that we still had lots of fun, we are ready to show our stuff
this weekend and our players are on the mend!
We missed the tournament bronze to rank fourth but we do have team medals that
we want to award. First up are the coaches who were volunteer exemplars.
An 800km round trip, a 12 hour day and -25 degree temperatures are enough to
test the mettle of any volunteer but our coaches were more than up to the
challenge. Thank you for your support and honourable mention to Kevin for
his contribution to our Saturday night entertainment! The parents are next
with special mention to Julie who made sure our two injured players got there
and had a chance to cheer from the bench and to Kathy for our awesome team
banner. Thanks to everyone who made sure we ate on Saturday night and
let’s not forget the sisters and brother who came along to cheer. They
were a great addition to the fan club! Then there were the girls. It
was really tough to see 3 games lost by 4 points or less and exhausting to play
until 9 o’clock at night, but everyone tried hard and didn’t give up until the
last ball cleared the net – way to go team! Fortunately, everyone
recovered from their disappointment to rally round for pizza, music and
“storytelling” on Saturday night – guest of honour was our birthday girl Olivia!
