16U Tournament
Saturday, January 10th, 2009
Fellowes High School, Pembroke Ontario

First game: vs. Milton Storm

We certainly looked strong as we faced the Milton Storm. Together we exhibited terrific teamwork and consistently took control of the game. Winning both sets 25/14 and 25/13, the team’s energy and positive attitude prepared us for our next challenge.

Second game: vs. 15U Attack Black

After such an impressive start, our next challenge was against one of our own, Durham Attack U15 Black.  Both teams showed determination and skill, and regrettably for us the Black team was victorious the first set winning quite handedly 25/11.  Linda, Paul and Chelsea worked together to calm the team down while encouraging us to play like we’ve practiced.  It worked because we came back to give the Black team a real challenge.  With exciting rallies, powerful hits and some incredible defensive plays, the match ended with Black winning 25/23.  Sadly we missed first place in our pool by a mere two points.

Third game: vs. 16U Attack Red

Our next game was against 16U Attack Red and once again we encouraged each other to play with confidence and determination.  They won the first match 25/21 but we battled back to win the second 25/22. Both teams had impressive plays and the third match was again very close with U16 winning 17/15.

Fourth game: vs. Ottawa Knights

Although we were clearly a better team, we let the Knights take charge of the first set and they won 25/15.  Because giving up is simply not an option, we fought back to win the second set 25/21 and the rivalry between the teams began to charge!  Our third game was gritty and feisty with the coaches (ahem) Paul, playing head games with the opponents’ head coach.  Thank goodness for rule books!  We won the game 15/9 and ended up ninth overall.  This was a great example of the mental aspect of the game and the way staying focused and working as a team is important to achieving success.

Thanks to our coaches and parents for their continued support!
