Pool play started against Stouffville and there were definitely some holiday
remnants on the court but it didn’t take long to get back into game shape with
the girls easily taking both sets. By the second match against Markham it was
becoming clear that we were a team to be reckoned with and it would take an
exceptional performance by an opponent to un-seed us. We played four games that
were won handily and it was now time for a well deserved break before the
playoffs started.
Our first playoff game against the Stingrays was once again won convincingly,
and it was now time to really focus because we were drawing to the end of the
tournament.
Our next game would be against the winner of our very own 13U Black and 14U Red
teams. They played a great match, with the 13U Black team coming out victorious
with two straight wins.
The 13U girls were obviously well coached playing great positional ball and
although we beat them, they were by far our toughest match of the day. They were
actually the first team to reach the 20 point mark against us. They are
definitely a team that will be heard from for years to come.
The gold medal game was against a strong Interclub team who were also undefeated
coming into the final. They are a solid team both defensively and offensively
but it didn’t take long for Rob to figure out what adjustments were needed and
we won both games in two hard fought battles.
It was a great day all around with all the girls contributing throughout the
day. It’s really nice to watch great positional volleyball as the team continues
to gel together.
Rob, Courtney and
Julie kept the girls grounded and focused throughout the day, which certainly
contributed to their success.
The season is still
young, but it will definitely be an exciting one as this team will only get
stronger throughout the year.
