The 13U red team had their first tournament in Bowmanville on December 13th.
The girls were in fine form and excited to get going with their first
competition as a Durham Attack team. It was an early morning but the girls
were ready to compete under the guidance of their coaches Roland and Tami Perau.
The tournament consisted of 10 teams from the surrounding area.

The first match
of pool play was against the Maverick Rattlers with a three game decision going
to the Red Team. The score was 25-18 for Durham Attack. In a tight match-up, the
second game went to the Mavericks with lots of hustle and heart by the Red team,
but coming up short 25-20. The Third game started out close but the Red Team
quickly finished the match 15-8.

Second match
against
Storm Blizzard from Aurora was another 3 game match with the outcome in favour
of The Attack. The Attack triumphed over The Blizzard 25-18 in the first
game. The second game was beginning to look like a total victory for the
Storm Blizzard but the girls worked with the momentum developed during the first
game and brought it back for a close score of 25-22 for the Storm. The
Attack prevailed the match in the third game with a score of 15-8.

Third match
against
DRVC was the last of the pool play and the girls continued to split matches. The
first game was won by the Attack 25-22. DRVC came back with a win of
25-20. We faced a difficult and heated match but the girls lost that one
15-10.

After a long
afternoon break the girls were back at it playing DRVC Blue team. (Another 3
game match). The first game was a struggle with a defeat of 13-25.
The girls pulled up their socks for a commanding win of 25-16. Great
serving by #5, Michaela Kucab. Despite the Attack’s determination, they
were defeated 15-7. Excellent playing that match by # 16, Madison Clysdale.
Our final match of the day was against the Titan Ice. After a long day the
girls were still pumped to get the job done but fell short with a first game
loss of 25-19. Great service by # 8, Amanda Mulholland in that game.
Not for lack of effort in the second game the girls suffered defeat by a score
of 25-16.

Overall
it was a great 1st tournament with regards to competition, sportsmanship and
especially the jelling of new friends on the Team. This will surely be
indicative of the girls’ success in tournaments to come.
Thanks to all the parents and coaches for their help in hosting the 1st 13U
Tournament of the Season! Special Thanks
to Chris Dunn and his Durham Attack White Team parents for all of their work,
including setting up the venue. Thanks also to Erich Perau for his help as
linesman.
Hope everyone has a Safe & Happy Holiday Season.
