For 16U Black girls, it was a tournament where history was repeated, and history was made.

On Saturday, the 16U Black team came out swinging and were rewarded with a first match win against the Ballhawks, somewhat unusual for the girls so early in the morning!  The girls then met Forest City Green, and their intensity was rewarded with another win.  The third match against National Capitols proved more difficult, as the desire for the win was the same for both teams.  The Capitols prevailed; but due to the easy early morning win, and some losses for the Capitols, Durham Attack maintained their first place finish in their pool.  The final cross-over match of the day against the Selects 92 proved an easy win for the girls.

Going into Sunday, spirits were up and the desire for Gold was evident.  The girls started their day with an awards ceremony, where we were all pleased to see Dani Vortisch receive her well-deserved Award of Excellence.  From there, they were ready to meet Niagara Rapids, a team that they often meet in decision making moments.  Two years ago, we first met the Rapids in the Provincial 14U Gold medal round, when the Rapids squeaked by us to win the Gold.  Our girls stormed back the next month at Nationals East to meet them again in the Gold medal round, this time taking the Gold back. Two years later, we met them again yesterday in the quarter finals, and despite a determined attempt marked by intensive play, history repeated itself and the Rapids won a closely fought 3 game match.  Although tremendously disappointed, the girls rallied their skills and spirits to win the final match against KW Predators at the end of the day to finish 5th overall.  This group of girls has been together for a number of years now and they have many things to be proud of; but their determination to play as a team, supportive of each other through wins and losses, makes them true champions.

Congratulations to 15U Black for their history-making win as the first 15U team to win the Tier 1 16U Provincials.
