The day started out playing the Knights and although the games
were close, there was very little doubt about the outcome with
victories coming against 18 & 22 points. Our pool play ended
against Pegasus where again straight wins propelled us to
finishing first in our pool.
Our crossover game
was against the #1 seeded team the Breakers. This is when we
played one of our best matches of the day. The girls were
determined to defensively keep the court free of balls dropping
and with pinpoint serving, great sets, powerful hits and super
blocks it didn’t take long for the Breakers to be eliminated from
medal contention. Our undefeated day continued with straight
wins only giving up a combined 24 points over the two sets.
We were now up
against the Kangaroos from our Nations Capital to determine who
would be playing for Gold. It was evident early on that this
team had no intentions of losing to an under-aged team. We
held our own in an exciting first game, but after only scoring 19
points, we suffered our first loss of the day. The second
set was just as exciting and once again, we found ourselves
trailing midway through the game. We were then very
fortunate because we added a seventh player to the court. The
extra player was no other than the entire 13U White team. If
you were anywhere close to any of the three tournament courts you
knew Attack was playing because of the cheering and encouragement
the White team was providing us. The deafening cheering and
encouragement is just what we needed and we came back to take the
second game 25-22. We were now on a roll and the tiebreaker
was over quick with a win against only 7 points. Thanks
girls!!!!
Off to the gold
medal match we went against our rival Durham club, DRVC 13U.
This match saw great plays from both sides of the court and was
definitely the highlight of the tournament. Not
surprisingly, this match went to a tiebreaker after each team
enjoyed a 25-19 victory. Unfortunately, we came up against a
hot server in this game and fell behind early. We started a
comeback but were unable to complete it falling 5-15 in the final
game of the day.
After an average
outing the week prior we may have been inspired by the highest
lift lock in the world because we definitely lifted our game to a
new level. We almost lost a few parents throughout the day
because of the excitement but everyone was very proud of the team
after an outstanding day in Peterborough.
