The 18U girls
showed determination and experience to win another gold medal, this time at the
18U Challenge Cup at Humber College. The day began with wins in all pool play
games, with the girls warming up and waking up against Forest City 17U and Mac.
In the first cross against Forest City 17U the girls were on fire with great
defense and some new offensive plays which they executed with perfection, taking
the match easily in two games, 25-08, 25-12.
Unfortunately this meant a cross with our 17U black team. These games were both
close point for point games to 18 with exciting rallies and strong offense.
The experienced 18U pulled ahead at the end to win each game with scores of
25-21, 25-18.
The gold medal match was once again a Durham region match as the girls faced
DRVC. Although we showed amazing digs in the first match, the girls did not
display their usual solid offence and had to fight back to finish with a first
game loss of 20-25. The second game was a different story with the girls taking
an early lead with a great serving streak and a varied offense to finish 25-14.
In the third game the girls were determined to continue on to retain their first
place ranking and took a commanding early lead. They continue to attack
aggressively, play with maturity and mental toughness and dig amazingly with
long and exciting rallies offered to the crowds. It was once again a great day
of volleyball for our 18U girls Black team.
