Smiles were as bright as gold in Hamilton as the 15U Durham Attack
girls black team quickly accepted their medals after championing the
finals in the 16U Tier 2 Challenge Cup. It was a long day of
competition and both parents and players alike were keen to get on
their way and savour the moment in the privacy of their cars back to
Pickering. It was a day that would test endurance and talent
with the girls mastering both to extend their win streak to 22-0.
But this was only in the 16U division. Combined with their 15 and
under age group, the girls are 42-0 -- not too shabby for last year's
National Champions.
During pool play, the Durham Attack Team took charge and eclipsed the
opposition in straight sets. The Black Attack continued, felling
the Waterloo Tigers who were seeded first in the tournament, before
moving on to best the home team favourite, the Mountain Athletic Club
(25-18, 29-27) in the semis. The second set was charged with
tension as point-for-point the teams served, hit and blocked for the
advantage with ultimate victory laid in Durham hands. The gold
medal match was business as usual for the Durham Attack team as the
girls swept Defensa from Oakville 25-18, 25-18.
The 16U Bugarski Cup in February will see the 15U girls up against
rivalry stronger than they've experienced to date and with that they
may experience the other side of victory. They will join the
elite of the OVA -- their sister team, the Durham Attack 16U Girls,
and their 15U DRVC rivals, to name a couple. And with their
fans, they will not be alone.
In the
meantime, the glint in their smiles continues to sparkle bright as
they eye Gold in the upcoming 15U Tier 1 Challenge Cup in Whitby.
