They started off playing Georgian Impact and took them in two
straight sets, 25-8,25-22. Next came the Stratford Stingers and
again the girls came out on top, 25-15, 25-23.
We had a looong wait for our
final pool competitors, the second ranked Etobicoke Titans.
Despite this and the deteriorating weather, the girls took
everything in stride and confidently walked onto the court. The
first game was closer than they wanted at 25-23, so they dug a
little deeper and took the second set 25-18.
Then came the longest wait of
all, over two hours to play a quarter final against the
Scarborough Titans Nemesis. The parents took good care of the
girls and coaches, keeping them healthy with great snacks and lots
of water. We took the first set at 25-14, then had to fight hard
to win the second 25-22.
Now we eagerly awaited our
semi-final opponents, only to find it was our own friends Durham
Attack Red. It's hard to play your friends and play to win, but
that we did taking the match in two. Our only consolation in
doing so was knowing that Red would remain with us in Tier
1...Yeah!!
We guessed from the outset
that if we made it to the gold medal match, that we would probably
meet up with our nemesis from last year and last week... Aurora
Storm Thunder (appropriate for the weather yesterday). We were
ready to weather this storm though (pardon the pun). We played
our game beautifully on defense and also kept swinging...the
result...25-15, 25-15 winning both games.....Gold again....to
celebrate we went back to Jean's house for a Christmas celebration
and Secret Santa Exchange. A great time was had by all. Best of
all, was that the storm really didn't hit until the celebration
was over.
The players, coaches, and
parents of the Girls 14U Black Team wish everyone a very MERRY
CHRISTMAS, and a HEALTHY, PROSPEROUS, AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
