Durham Attack 15U Red had a challenging day at the 15U McGregor Cup,
Tier 1, in Welland on December 8.
The first
match of the morning pitted Attack Red against Impact Black. The
teams were closely matched, resulting in an exciting third game.
15U Red came on strong in the tie breaker to take the match (25-22,
12-25, 15-9).
The team
then faced the second ranked Hurricane Black. The Hurricanes
took early leads in both games. Durham Attack Red fought hard,
and managed to keep the games competitive. However, the
Hurricanes won both games for the match, 20-25, 22-25.
Given
their win against Impact, and the close point differential with
Hurricane Black, 15U Red were fairly confident of a second place
finish in our pool. However, the volleyball gods were not smiling upon
Attack Red, and the team came out at the bottom of a 3-way tie (it
came down to 1 point!!!).
As a
result, Durham Attack Red faced a 4 ½ hour break, and returned to the
court to face the fifth ranked team, Titans Soul. The first game
was fraught with unforced errors. The second game Attack Red
pulled together and almost pulled it off. 15U Red surrendered
the match to the Titans 11-25, 23-25.
With the wind knocked out of their sails, Attack Red faced DRVC Blue
to fight for 9th place. Attack took an early lead each game, but DRVC
was tenacious and managed to claw their way to match victory 23-25,
22-25.
The team
packed up disappointed but determined to do better next time.
Overall, not the best day for Durham Attack 15U Red, but there are
lots of tournaments still in the season.
