Two tournaments – eight wins, 2 losses. With a National Championship win behind them, the U15 Black girl’s team took the floor at U of T’s Scarborough campus November 10th and swept the OVA’s first provincial U15 girls tournament with five straight wins. The DA U15 girls started strong with unchallenged victories in pool play beating Storm Thunder, Selects 93 and Storm Fury in straight sets. Competition was taken up a notch in the playoff round robin and the girls game play rose with it.  Defeating both the Scarborough Titans and the Scarborough Falcons, the DA U15 girls passed and hit their way to top spot of Zone E.

The strong finish helped pave the way for a dominant appearance in the November 17th U16 tournament.  Warming up to the toughest competition to date, the girls showed the discipline and stamina that had earned them gold at the U14 Nationals last spring.  Besting their own Durham Attack U16 red team and the U15/16 combination from Toronto, the girls fell short of taking the Scarborough Titans (3rd place finishers in last spring’s Provincials) and ended placing second in pool play.

The round robin would set the girls against their sister team, the DA 15U red – the win of which guaranteed them at least a top 5 finish.  But the day was not yet over – the last team to face would have to be the team that had proved to be the nemesis of the DA U15 team last season; the team that had taken the girls all the way to Moncton’s Nationals to finally prove victorious – DRVC.  The teams headed to the floor and battled, point for point, but the first set slipped through the fingers of the DA team.  Undaunted , the team took to the floor for the second set and with the confidence and dexterity of the Nationals, showed that nothing could be taken for granted and handedly won the second set. The air was thick with tension as these two fierce competitors approached each other for the third and deciding set, both poised for a victory.  But, this day, the DA U15 team fell short of reliving the glory of Moncton and lost the race to 15 – match and game went to DRVC.
