It was
with great expectations that our 13U White ladies entered into the
Provincial Championships at Tier 2, held this year in Port Hope.
The girls were all calm, cool and confident, knowing that they had
already had a great season, and were looking forward to claiming a
Provincial medal for the club.
The first day was awesome. The girls went undefeated in pool
play, besting Northumberland Ice 25-16 and 25-21, DRVC Orange 25-18
and 25-12, and then going on to defeat Scarborough Titans Ice 25-16
and 25 –19. This placed us first in the pool, and positioned us well
for the start of the playoffs on April 1.
The critical match, as well all know, when going into the playoffs, is
the crossover match, the first match of the playoffs. Although
the girls played hard, it was not to be on this day, and they fell to
Peel Selects 94 18-25 and 15-25. It was a heartbreaking match, and
could easily have spelled disaster for the rest of the day. As
always, though, our 13U White Ladies showed the determination,
resilience and tenacity that they displayed all year, and came back
strong in their remaining two matches (against South County Bandits
Black, 25-15, 12-25, 15-5; and Waterloo Tigers Black, 25-18, 25-8) to
finish fifth overall at Tier 2, mirroring the path to 5th place taken
by their Black clubmates at Tier 1.
Despite the lack of a medal at the Provincials, it was a stellar end
to what has been a rich and fulfilling season for the whole team.
The girls have grown as teammates and friends throughout the season,
and all of the their skills have improved through their hard work and
dedication to the sport. Through long practices, and longer
tournaments we have all been impressed at the way that they never gave
up, fought hard, and supported each other always.
Well done 13U White! Also, our heartfelt congratulations to the rest
of the club, and in particular to our 13U Black and Red clubmates, who
also had fantastic seasons. It’s been an honour to be members of
such a great club, and I know that all of the girls (and their moms
and dads!) are looking forward to carrying on the winning tradition
next year, in their second year of 13U eligibility. Good luck to
most (if not all) of the Black and Red girls as they move up to 14U
next year!
See you in September!
From: The 13U White Coaches, Parents and most importantly, the
talented girls who played so hard this year!
