Home > Durham Attack | 15U Boys Bring Home Bronze from Provincials
|
Another stellar weekend of volleyball from the 15U boys as they
traveled to London to take on the rest of the qualifiers in the tier 1
provincials.
The opening match against Pakmen was 2 quick sets, 25-20, 25-16. This
gave the opportunity for 14U call ups, Rob Wojcik and Alex Dawson to
get a taste of playing with the big boys. They both got rid of the
jitters and managed to get some clean touches on the ball.
Match 2 against eventual gold medalist, Crush, was a hard battle that
not even mixing the starting lineups could salvage. To their
credit the boys came back and gave them a fight, scoring 6 consecutive
late points, going down in two sets 10-25, 19-25.
Maverick Wildcards from Ottawa provided the opposition for the third
match, a three set barn burner with great aggressive play at the net
from middles Nate Minard and Pierre Auger. Libero Tom Alayon and
Power Seb Keegan, conducted a passing clinic for a thrilled crowd as
Durham came through in three sets 20-25, 25-21, 15-10.
The last match of the day came immediately and saw our boys going
straight into a warm up on a new court. Cam Wynn came in for
power and Bryan Wysocki stepped in to help in the middle but the day
had clearly taken it’s toll and we went down in two heart breaking
sets, 23-25, 23-25.
A new day dawned and it was time for the crossover against arch rival
Toronto West. These two teams split matches throughout the
season in OVA 15U and 16U, exhibition and Can-Am play. Both sets
were close as Award of Excellence winner Tim Flynn set the team for
two nail biting, come from behind wins, 25-22, 25-23.
Going into the semi-final against host, number one ranked, Forest
City, we knew we had our hands full. Pete Koropatwa came in to
right side and provided steady blocks against a relentless barrage
that ended in two sets, 14-25, 15-25.
The bronze medal match was a return visit with the Mavericks and they
wanted revenge from the close round robin match. They were,
however no match for the combined hustle of Kieran Sadler and Scott
Cockburn who refused to go home without the medal they worked so hard
for over the season. In a pair of come from behind, extra points
sets, Attack Black prevailed 29-27, 26-24.
As always the 15U boys showed up with most of the squad of ‘all star’
parents to cheer them on to what was possibly their best performance,
so far, this season – look-out Moncton because here they come!
