They were seeded 4th in the 16-team tournament and played their first game
against Twin Bridges. With limited practices due to the gym shortage, some
were worried that the girls may be a little rusty. This worry was put to
rest early with straight wins against 16 & 21 points.
Next up were the
Etobicoke Wildcats. After a quick win in the first game, we faltered in
the second losing 16-25. The tiebreaker was a nail biter but we came up
short losing 12-15.
The last match was
against the Hurricanes and it was over relatively quickly with straight wins
against 16 & 21 points.
The crossover game
was against the Ganaraska Wolves and if you ever wondered if a Wolf was more
dangerous than a Hawk, the answer is definitely NO. The Wolves went down
in record time scoring just 10 points in the first game and 16 in the second.
After a good night's
sleep the Collingwood Cubs were first up. After a few tough breaks, it was
23-23 before we knew it. Unfortunately we came up short losing game one
25-23. With a quick refocus, we were on to game two which was over very
quickly with a 25-11 victory. The tiebreaker was close but was never in
doubt with a 15-12 win.
The semis were now
upon us with a meeting with the Hurricanes. The first game finished with a
24-26 loss. Not only did we lose the first game, but we almost lost most
of the parents due to the high levels of excitement. The second game
wasn’t as close and we came up short losing 25-18.
On to the Bronze
Medal match we went where our friends from pool play awaited us. Actually,
the Wildcats are not really our friends since they were the only team to beat us
on day one. As we did in pool play, we dominated the first game with a
25-18 win. Continuing with a repeat of pool play, they came back strong
with a 25-19 victory sending the medal match to a tiebreaker. This is
where the similarities of pool play stopped as we dominated the tiebreaker and
won 15-8 capturing the Bronze medal.
With a final record
of 12 & 5, and medals in our last two 15U tournaments we are certainly ready for
Moncton. Hopefully the parents will remember their heart medication
as it will surely be an exciting time for all.
