The first matched ended with straight wins against the Thunder wining 25-23 and
25-21. Although the scores looked close, Attack dominated both games.
The next match
against Pegasus Flames went to a tiebreaker but the girls rose to the occasion
extinguishing their hope of a victory.
The third match
in pool play was over quickly when before they knew it, the Maverick Colts where
shaking hands after being totally dominated in two straight games.
We were now off
to the cross over game, which has been our downfall in the past. This is
where Karen and Barry went into action developing a game plan and preparing the
girls for the playoffs. The Ottawa Kangaroos had plans to score 25 points
against us, which would advance their plans in their medal quest. They
actually scored 26 points against us but it took them two games to do it as we
totally dominated them with wins against 15 & 11 points.
On to the semi we
went to meet the Maverick Gold Diggers. We let them smell the gold when they
were up 23-15 in the first game, but quickly showed them that they were looking
at fool’s gold with an exciting come from behind 25-23 win. The second
game was close as well but there was no doubt who was going to come out on top.
We stayed in control of the game and sent them back to the mines with a 25-22
victory.
On to the final
match we went for a meeting with the Ganaraska Wolves. Like many of the
teams we faced in the tournament, this team was new to us. They were by
far the tallest team we have faced this season, but this did not intimidate our
girls. The games were close but we fell short losing 2 straight scoring 21 & 22
points.
All in all the
weekend was a total success. The medals were nice but more importantly the
team played great together. Everyone contributed and with the balanced
attack, we were rewarded with our first medal of the season. The girls
were ecstatic with their medals and the parents were certainly proud of their
accomplishments.
