Well, it had finally arrived, our first overnight stay for a
tournament. To say that the team was excited would be a gross
understatement…they had finally achieved one of their goals for the
year! Fine dining, a hotel room, and the chance to pester their
parents, who now had nowhere to go!!!!!
Facing a full slate of twelve teams, the girls prepared for what
promised to be a challenging day. In the pool play, the girls
fought hard and stuck to the basics, playing the “bump-set-spike” game
to full advantage, serving hard and consistently, and working together
as a solid and unified team. They were, in fact, so successful that
the placed first in their pool.
In the playoffs, the first team the girls faced was Northumberland
Ice, a team that they had faced (and had lost to) in the previous
tournament in Brighton. This time, however, our 13U White ladies
proved too much for the Cobourg team.
Advancing
to the semi-finals, the girls faced a very determined and tough Aurora
Storm Monsoon, who had recently been playing in Tier 1. In the
face of intimidating serves and challenging spikes, the girls played
hard, and made the Aurora team earn their way into the Gold medal
round. While we were looking forward to bringing home the Gold
for the club, and were a little disappointed following the semi-final
match, we regrouped (as the girls are so good at) and entered the
Bronze medal match convinced that we were going to take the medal.
True to
form, the girls played a solid, consistent game, and were able to
defeat the opposition Scarborough Titans to claim yet another medal
for the club! This was an outstanding finish to a fantastic
weekend, and the girls are looking forward to claiming a third medal
for Durham Attack in the Provincials in March.
Go Durham Attack!!!
