On January 27, 2007, the girls 13U White team attended the 2007 13U
Challenge Cup in Brighton. Although the ride to the tournament was one
of the more eventful ones of the year, as far as the weather was
concerned, the girls arrived in high spirits, ready to compete.
The girls played well in the pool round, with close matches against
DRVC Orange and Northumberland Ice. As a result of their
performance, the girls finished second in their pool, and prepared for
the playoff rounds.
In the first round of playoffs, the girls faced a determined
Northumberland Storm team, but proved too much for their rivals from
Cobourg. Next came the match that we all hoped we would have as
the final match of the day, as it would mean that Durham Attack would
take home gold and silver! Alas, we met our clubmates, the
Durham Attack 13U Red team, in the semi-finals, and although the games
were hotly contested, the 13U Red team emerged victorious.
Cheering them on to success in the gold medal match (which they won –
yay!) we headed off to the bronze medal match against an opponent we
had not yet faced, the Pink Lightning. Although the girls
demonstrated their famous resilience and tenacity, they unfortunately
were not able to join their Red clubmates on the podium this
tournament. Still, a fourth place finish is another huge and
positive step on the incredible journey this team has made from the
start of the season, and were look forward to success in the 13U
Bugarski Cup in February!
