After a long day of volleyball and some interesting calls the 16U Durham Attack
REDHAWKS managed to have an impressive debut in OVA Tier 1. Although there
would be no hardware to take home, the girls made their most significant jump in
the rankings this season, starting the day ranked 11th and finishing the day
holding the 6th seed for the next event.
After a very slow and frustrating start in Round Robin play the girls
were up against Durham Attack 15U Black. After having very limited
success against the strong younger team in the past, the REDHAWKS were
able to play a very strong match to defeat 15U Black 2 games to 1.
This set up a quarter final with yet another fellow club opponent in
16U Black. The Girls played hard but it wasn't enough as Attack
Black swept the REDHAWKS 2-0. With nothing but pride left to
play for the REDHAWKS were up against the National Capitals to see who
would play for 5th place. This was a match where the coaching
staff was very proud of the way the girls played. There was a
sense of control and confidence as the girls started to believe that
we belong in Tier 1 and are going to be competitive. The Hawks
were able to sweep the Capitals 2-0!
We were up against Waterloo Tigers in the 5th place game and let's
just say it was an interesting experience. After failing to put
the Tigers away in game 1 after having two comfortable leads the Hawks
were on the losing end of a 30-28 score. In game 2 there were
too many other extra-curricular events happening to be focused
completely on the game. So we will gladly take the 6th place
seed and work hard to improve our ranking going into Provincials.
We are very proud of our girls for the way they handled themselves in
their first TIER 1 Event of the season. We know we belong and
are looking forward to competing even harder in March. Congratulations
to Chris, Melissa, Kevin, and the DURHAM ATTACK 16U Black team for
their GOLD Medal victory.
