The girls 15U Black
team won Silver at the Challenge Cup Tier 1 on February 10, 2007.
In a shaky start to the day, they struggled to win against the National
Capitals, 25-21, 19-25, 15-10. True to form however, they did not let this shake
their resolve, and they came back to beat Storm Vortex 25-5, 25-12. When they
met the Waterloo Tigers in the crossover match, they sharpened their skills and
maintained their focus as they won 25-9, 25-20.
Then it was on to meet their rivals from last year, the Niagara Rapids. The
girls really wanted to win this match, and fought hard to take it 25-21, 25-20.
Then it was on to meet –
who else – Scarborough Titans in the Gold Medal match. By this point, the girls
looked tired and unfocused – a fatal presentation against a team who has
hungered for a Gold Medal for the entire season.
It was a tight match, but
the Titans outplayed our girls to win the match 25-22, 25-20. This was a
sobering day for 15U Black, and each girl must now focus on what has to do be
done individually, as well as a team, to return to the level of play of which we
all know they are capable.
