Beach National Champions 14U & 16U Aug 30

This past weekend in 14U Jazmine White & Taylor Simons competed as the Ontario Provincial Champions in the Canadian National Beach Volleyball Championships held at Ashbridges Bay in Toronto. Teams from all across Canada were entered and the calibre of competition was the best there is at the 14U level.

The newly comprised duo were the only Ontario team to make it to the medal round. Rising to the challenge to represent their province, the duo fought hard defeating a very strong BC team in the semi-finals and then defeated, in two straight sets, the Manitoba Provincial Champions to capture Tier 1 Gold for Ontario.   more info...

In 16U Jordyn Moloney & Ali Goc had to win the hard way, besting Canada Prospects Camille Saxton 2009 in a three-set semi-final.  Saxton-McDonald, fresh off a Bronze Medal performance at the Beach U.S. Open in California, were seeded #2 as Alberta Champions.  In the final Jordyn & Ali defeated recent U.S. Junior Olympics Beach Champs Melissa Humana & Victoria Altomare 22-20, 21-19.   more info...

Ashleigh Andzel & Jodie Mitchell of 14U Black also competed in Beach Nationals. The girls played terrific together all season and finished with a Tier 2 National Championship. What an awesome finale to a great beach season. This is the twosome to watch out for next year in 14U. Yes that's right, they just turned 13!!!!! Great job!

14U Black finished a very respectable 4th in Tier 1, winning the ever popular "copper medal".  They dominated pool play as well as both the crossover and quarter-final matches.

The semi-final was the match of the tournament, clearly showing that the two Durham teams were the class of the field. Fans were treated to a passing clinic, while the Attack 14s mounted an offence that the eventual winners had not seen all weekend. Take away the 9 missed serves and the final scores would have been even closer than the final 25-20 25-19.

The 14 Black coaches were extremely proud of the team's efforts and are very excited as they head to Moncton ranked as ON2.

Attack Dance a Huge Success Mar 10th The numbers are in and thanks to all those who participated, you raised $8250 for your athletes and $3700 for your club. While the feedback on the location, meal, music and silent auction items have all been nothing but positive, the real success was getting the lion's share of the profit back to our athletes.  One in particular made over $1100 between ticket sales and auction items. With buying two tickets and putting in several quality auction items, my own child made $396 for which we did very little except have a fun night out! These are only a couple of examples of individual success stories.  The club executive is very grateful for the money that was raised on their behalf as well!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow dance committee members for all their hard work, Brian and Marlene Harper, Jim and Shannon Sliva and Barb Loynachan.

See you at the dance next year!   Rod Loynachan
