The 15U Girls Black team managed to hang on to their #1 status in Tier 1 on the weekend at the McGregor Cup in Ottawa.  It was a difficult day for the girls, as they struggled somewhat with focus and rhythm in their game. The other teams definitely have them in their sights, and each team was hungry for any points scored against Durham Attack Black.

The pool play started off well with a convincing win against the National Capitals, 25-12 and 25-16. The second win came against a team from Waterloo, the Tigers White, 25-15, 25-23. The final match was against Forest City Green, a team that gave the girls a challenge with a win in the first game, 22-25.  Durham Attack roared back with a decisive victory of 25-11, and won the tie breaker 15-6.

The crossover match was a meeting with the Ravens, a team first met in Moncton at the Nationals.  This is a tenacious, confident team, and they made our girls work hard for every point they earned (25-19, 25-18). This match was exciting volleyball, and was thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

The girls then met Impact in the semi-finals, and easily won this match 25-17, 25-19.  Then it was time to meet the Scarborough Titans again (of course!).  More very exciting volleyball – great digs, hits and blocks, and plenty of intensity from both sides of the court.  Durham Attack Black was still able to display their dominance on the court however. The first game was won with a comfortable lead, 25-17, but the Titans were determined to push for a win and came back to take the second game 16-25.  Never ones to fold under pressure, our girls jumped higher, hit harder and blocked better during the tie breaker, to win the match 15-8.

Now it’s a well-deserved rest for the team until mid January when they meet the Tier 1 16U teams.  BTW if you are in the Pickering area this Saturday, December 16, please come by Wal-Mart as the team sells tickets for a draw and paints faces for little ones.
