After a long day of volleyball the Durham Attack RED HAWKS were able to take home the bronze medal at the 17U MCGREGOR CUP.

Pool Play began against Collingwood, despite a number of service errors the girls were able to win the match 25-21, 25-11. Stephanie Harper had a good start to a great day setting the offence with 8 assists. Danielle Smithen had 3 kills. In Match 2 the girls had a very big and hard hitting Toronto Midnight Blues on the ropes in game one but couldn't deliver the knock out punch as the Blues battled back to defeat the HAWKS 25-22. Elissa Whittington and Erin Spraggs had 3 kills each, while Spraggs was 8 for 8 serving. In game 2 despite great passing from the HAWKS the girls fell short 20-25. Taylor Cumming had 4 digs in the loss.

In the crossover the girls were up against the Georgian CUBS. After a terrible start which saw the hawks go down 12-2, the girls starting to come back but lost 23-25. In games 2 and 3 the girls played much better and won the match by 23-25, 25-25, 15-12. Kellie Downing had 12 kills and Stephanie Harper had 14 assists while Alex McLeod contributed with 7 assists. Erin Spraggs was great defensively and contributed with 9 kills and 3 aces.

The quarter finals brought on DRVC, and the HAWKS made quick work of the Durham rival winning 25-18, 25-17. The girls were at their best commiting only 2 unforced errors in the match. the HAWKS were led by the serving of Erin Campbell who was 13 for 13, and Andrea Titus who was 8 for 8 with 3 aces. Erin Spraggs and Kellie Downing continued their strong play offensively with 7 kills each. Vanessa Peprah-Addo finished the game with an Ace to go along with 2 kills.

In the Semi Final fatigue was a big factor as the girls could get nothing going against the Peel Selects losing 18-25, 22-25. Taylor Cumming had 7 digs including to highlight reel saves. Iva Pantic had 3 key kills, and Alex Mcleod set up 9 kills.

Going into the bronze medal game against the Barrie Elites the girls were very relaxed and continued their strong defensive play winning the Bronze Medal 25-13, 25-19. Kellie Downing finished a strong day with 9 kills. Ursula Toaze who played very consistent all day had 8 kills. Alex McLeod had 8 assists to go along with 3 aces.

The Hawks were at their best defensively this weekend. We are looking forward to the girls putting it all together.
