The U18 Boys team began their season with an excellent start earning a Silver medal in their first competition of the year, starting their season playing in an age division above their own.

Pool Play:

The day began well with a match against the #1 seeded MAC who won silver at last years Provincial Championships.  MAC is also a U18 Team this year and our boys were able to win 2 of three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 19-25.

In the second match our boys came up against Kingston Pegasus and had an easier time of it in the first two sets winning by scores of 25-11 and 25-13.  We almost fell asleep in the third set but managed to squeak out a 31-29 win.

Play-offs:

Having earned the number 1 seed in our pool, our boys earned a bye to the quarter-finals and the nearly three hour break almost cost us a loss in this match against the Niagara Rapids U19.  To their credit Niagara played very well.  Our boys managed to battle out a three set victory with scores of 25-18, 23-25 and 20-18.

Semi-finals:

In the semi-finals the team came up against TSX U19 a new team formed from an amalgamation of Toronto West and the Scarborough Falcons and also players from a number of other clubs.  It was a heated and impressive battle for both teams and our boys had solid passing and some incredible defence (yes, guys can actually play defence).  When the dust settled Durham Attack had won in straight sets with scores of 25-22 and 28-26.  It was very rewarding to win two very close play-off matches back to back at the very beginning of the season.  We were off to the Gold Medal Final.

Finals:

In the finals against the Chatham Ball Hawks U19, our team seemed to be out of gas after having played such a great match in the semi-finals.  We were simply out of it in the first set losing by a score of 11-25.  The team fought back valiantly in the second set but still came up a bit short losing by a score of 21-25.

The team did a great job in their first competition playing against older and somewhat more experienced players.  A very proud accomplishment indeed!
